Astcote Rare Breeds, at Pear Tree Farm in Astcote, is a smallholding which started in 2004 with some pure breed and rare breed poultry. In 2007 the first Pedigree Leicester Longwool Sheep arrived soon followed by some Mangalitza Pigs, and some Cattle.

Astcote Rare Breeds main livestock is the Sheep. The Pedigreed Flocks of black and white Leicester Longwool sheep and black and white Blue Face Leicester Sheep. The Longwool flock takes to the county Shows throughout the show season, to promote this valuable Heritage Breed and its properties of good quality carcasses and Wool, and has come home with Rosettes and Trophies. Conserving the Breed is one of our main focuses for breeding and showing. There is also some commercial sheep crossed to a charolais ram for meat production. At times we have stock for sale, freezer packs of lamb, pork, sausages, wool for spinning, felting. This all helps to cover the cost of keeping and rearing and conversing these breeds.
